Artist Statement
Pamela Gibson Stendardi
I have loved drawing since I was a young child. To this day my favorite medium is a pencil and sketch pad. I worked with a pen nib and dipping ink for years until I discovered the technical pen. That medium became my lively hood. The very precise and detail of pen & ink leaves an elegant look. As your eye flows along the lines and angles it draws you in. For me it is a feeling of contentment.
In drawing houses I'm putting down history and memories, an impression of what once was or still is. I'm intrigued by architecture with its boldness yet delicate details we sometimes miss in passing. On paper its "I am here" existence is quietly captured and tamed to an image of beauty and peace.
Growing up on the island of Martha's Vineyard my sketch pad included drawings of Old Whaling homes, Victorian Inns and Dollhouse Cottages which all led down to sandy beach shores, boats and lighthouses.
I moved to Boston to attend the Vesper George School of Art, the oldest art school in the city. Here I was fed even more for my passion. Modern architecture against Old Colonial. Dancing rooftops and inviting doorways.
Never a shortage of inspiration. The beauty of art is all around us. Where we live, where we vacation. My journal is my sketchpad.
I have recently added watercolor to my sketches and have self published a children's storybook. This book consists of 8 factual animal stories with a craft to complete at the end. It is bilingual English/German in honor of my German grandchildren. Order from me only. At least for now.
Personalized art or a drawing of ones home is a memorable gift. One that the receiver will cherish forever.
